Tullow Ghana Announces 16-Day Maintenance Shutdown of Jubilee Oil Field
Tullow Ghana and its partners have scheduled a 16-day maintenance shutdown of the Jubilee oil field, beginning on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
The planned maintenance aims to enhance production capacity, upgrade operations, and minimize operational risks in the offshore field.
Focus on FPSO Upgrades and Facility Enhancements
The maintenance activities will center on critical repairs and improvements to the Kwame Nkrumah FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) vessel. Key tasks include retooling essential equipment, conducting leak tests, and upgrading facilities to expand gas export capacity.
This announcement follows Tullow Ghana’s successful completion of a 4D seismic survey on both the Jubilee and TEN fields—an initiative designed to identify future drilling opportunities and ensure long-term resource sustainability.
Ensuring Uninterrupted Energy Supply
To mitigate the impact of the shutdown on Ghana’s energy supply, Tullow Ghana has secured an agreement with the government to temporarily source gas from the TEN fields during the maintenance period. This measure is expected to maintain a steady gas supply for power producers and industrial users.
Commitment to Sustainable Operations
The shutdown is part of a broader strategy to extend the operational lifespan of the FPSO and serves as a precursor to a mini-drilling campaign scheduled for May 2025.
Commenting on the upcoming maintenance, Jean-Medard Madama, Managing Director of Tullow Ghana, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to efficient and responsible resource management.
“This maintenance shutdown is a crucial step in safeguarding and optimizing our field assets while improving production efficiency at the Jubilee field. It also underscores our responsibility as the lead operator of Ghana’s main oil fields and our dedication to developing Ghana’s resources in a sustainable manner that benefits all stakeholders,” he stated.
