Mr. Samuel Aboabire (Kataar), Driving a New Era for Women’s Football in Ghana
Up-close is one of visionary force behind Ghana’s ever-growing football landscape, he continues to lead from the front, with energy, drive, and vision. Mr. Samuel Aboabire, affectionately known in the sports fraternity as Kataar. As the Greater Accra Regional Football Association Chairman, GFA Executive Council (EXCO) member, and a vital part of the Black Stars Management Committee, Aboabire has earned a reputation for his tireless commitment to the game’s progress both on and off the pitch.

But what’s catching national attention lately is his renewed enthusiasm for developing female soccer in Ghana, a mission he believes is long overdue. For Aboabire, the women’s game is not just an extension of football; it’s a powerful avenue for equality, opportunity, and growth.
“The same passion, energy, and investment we pour into men’s football must go into the women’s game. Our female footballers deserve the platform, recognition, and resources to shine,” Aboabire emphasized in a one on one with TV Host DS De Golden Bhoy, when he was getting ready for his interview at Aluta FM.
He stated, “ the Greater Accra RFA has begun strengthening grassroots initiatives that encourage young girls to embrace football with confidence and professional ambition”.He has been instrumental in liaising with schools, communities, and local clubs to identify and nurture female talents, ensuring the next generation of women footballers receive the same structural support and technical guidance as their male counterparts.
Aboabire’s vision is clear: to build a sustainable female football ecosystem that thrives on training, exposure, and competitive merits. His advocacy also extends to private sector involvement, urging corporate Ghana to see the potential and marketability of the women’s game.

As part of the GFA Executive Council, he continues to push for policy frameworks and strategic investments that bridge the gap between men’s and women’s football, from improved facilities and coaching to better player welfare and media coverage.
It’s this kind of forward-thinking leadership that has earned him the admiration of many within Ghana’s football community. With Samuel Aboabire’s continual enthusiasm, Ghana’s women’s football is not just being supported, it’s being energized, redefined, and repositioned for greatness.
Indeed, for Kataar, football development knows no gender, only passion, opportunity, and the desire to win.
