Switzerland and Ghana are making notable strides in strengthening decentralization and improving local service delivery through collaborative development projects across the country. As part of efforts to monitor the impact of these initiatives, the Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Cooperation at the Swiss Embassy, Ms. Janine Walz, together with Ghana’s Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, embarked on an inspection tour of key projects in the Ahafo and Bono Regions.

During the visit, the delegation toured completed educational facilities in the Asutifi North and Sunyani West districts. The newly built school infrastructure is expected to significantly enhance access to quality education for pupils in the communities, creating a more conducive learning environment for students and teachers alike.

The inspection also highlighted developments beyond the education sector. Newly constructed health centers and modern market facilities in the districts are already delivering tangible benefits to residents. The health facilities are helping to expand access to essential healthcare services, while the markets are strengthening local economic activities and providing improved trading spaces, particularly benefiting women who play a central role in community commerce.

According to officials, these projects are part of broader efforts to deepen Ghana’s decentralization agenda by empowering local governments to deliver essential services more effectively to citizens. By improving infrastructure and community participation, the initiatives aim to ensure that development reaches people directly at the grassroots level.

The projects have been jointly financed by Switzerland, Germany, and the Government of Ghana, reflecting the power of international cooperation in supporting sustainable development at the local level. Through such partnerships, development partners and the Ghanaian government continue to work together to strengthen institutions, promote citizen participation, and enhance public service delivery across districts.

The inspection tour underscores the commitment of Switzerland and its partners to supporting Ghana’s decentralized governance framework while ensuring that communities benefit from improved infrastructure, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
