Ghana has taken a significant step in its industrial development with the commissioning of the world’s largest calcined clay cement plant by CBI Ghana Ltd, producers of Supacem Cement. The state-of-the-art facility, located at the Tema Free Zones Enclave, was officially inaugurated in the presence of President John Dramani Mahama and the Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Amb. Simone Giger.

The commissioning of the plant represents a landmark achievement for Ghana’s cement industry and highlights the country’s growing reputation as a hub for innovative and sustainable industrial projects. Calcined clay technology is widely recognized for its ability to reduce carbon emissions in cement production, making the project an important step toward climate-smart industrialization.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Giger expressed her delight in joining President Mahama and other dignitaries for the historic occasion. She emphasized that the project reflects the power of innovation in driving industrial growth while also promoting environmental sustainability.
According to her, the initiative demonstrates the strong collaboration between Switzerland and Ghana, particularly in leveraging Swiss technical expertise alongside Ghanaian resources and local talent to build a more resilient and sustainable industrial sector.

The new plant is expected to significantly enhance cement production capacity while reducing the environmental footprint traditionally associated with cement manufacturing. By using locally sourced calcined clay as a key material in cement production, the project also promotes local value creation and supports Ghana’s broader industrial transformation agenda.
CBI Ghana Ltd, the company behind Supacem Cement, has been recognized for its commitment to innovation and sustainability within the construction materials industry. The commissioning of the facility positions Ghana at the forefront of environmentally responsible cement production globally.
Ambassador Giger congratulated CBI Ghana Ltd for the achievement and commended Ghana for hosting a project of such global significance, noting that it reflects the country’s readiness to embrace advanced industrial solutions that balance economic growth with environmental responsibility.
The project stands as a testament to the potential of international partnerships in driving sustainable development and strengthening Ghana’s position in the global industrial landscape.
