The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. John Oti Bless, has appealed to residents of the Tamale Metropolitan Area and its environs to stop sand-winning activities at the Nawuni water intake point.

His appeal follows a complaint by the Regional Chief Manager of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Stephen Amihere-Mensah, who revealed that due to ongoing sand-winning activities, critical components used to pump water to the treatment plant break down almost every month.

The Committee Chair indicated that the Water Resources Commission would collaborate with the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to enforce by-laws aimed at protecting water bodies from pollution and degradation.

The Committee also inspected the Dalun Water Treatment Plant in the Kumbungu Constituency.
